Battery backup electrical
Home Battery Backup Electrical Installation
Powerwall-ready panel upgrades, backup-load planning, ESA permits, and EV charger load coordination for Toronto and GTA homes that want reliable backup power without guessing if the electrical system can handle it.
The ACDC angle
We make the home electrically ready before the battery goes in.
Battery backup is not just a product mounted on the wall. The real work is deciding which circuits are backed up, whether the panel has capacity, how EV charging behaves, where transfer equipment goes, and how the installation passes ESA inspection.
Panel Capacity Review
We inspect whether your current panel can support battery backup, EV charging, solar-ready electrical work, or whether a 200A upgrade is the smarter first step.
Battery Backup Wiring
Electrical preparation for home battery systems, including gateway placement, backed-up circuits, disconnects, conduit paths, and code-compliant integration.
EV + Battery Load Planning
If the home has or will have a Level 2 EV charger, we plan charging load, backup behavior, and panel capacity together instead of treating them as separate projects.
ESA Permit Coordination
Battery backup and service changes are not casual add-ons. We handle the electrical side with proper ESA notification, inspection coordination, and clean documentation.
Brand-aware electrical planning
Battery and charger brands homeowners are already searching for
A good backup-power lead usually starts with a brand name. We use those searches to educate the homeowner, then bring the conversation back to the electrical work that decides whether the install is realistic: service size, backed-up circuits, EV charging load, permits, and inspection.
Tesla Powerwall
Main homeowner search term for battery backup, especially when paired with a Tesla Wall Connector.
FranklinWH
Whole-home battery backup option that still needs service, panel, transfer, and backed-up load planning.
EcoFlow
Portable and hybrid backup systems can be useful, but permanent home integration needs proper electrical review.
Sigenergy SigenStor
Solar and battery ecosystem searched in other markets; Ontario availability and installer requirements must be confirmed.
GoodWe / FoxESS
Solar inverter and storage ecosystems where the electrical path depends on inverter location, disconnects, and inspection scope.
EV charger systems we account for
The charger model affects breaker size, wire size, load calculation, panel upgrade decisions, and whether charging should be limited or disabled during backup mode.
What We Check Before Battery Backup
Service paths
Choose the right electrical scope.
Backup-Ready Assessment
Best for homeowners comparing Powerwall, generator, solar, or future battery storage.
- Panel and meter review
- Backup load discussion
- Upgrade path recommendation
- Photo-based first pass available
Critical-Load Backup Prep
Best for protecting essentials during outages without backing up every circuit in the home.
- Critical-load panel planning
- Fridge, furnace, sump, internet, lighting priorities
- Gateway and conduit path planning
- ESA-ready electrical scope
Panel Upgrade + Battery Readiness
Best for older 100A homes adding battery backup, EV charging, heat pumps, or major renovations.
- 100A to 200A upgrade path
- Service and utility coordination
- Future EV charger capacity
- Battery and solar-ready layout
Powerwall, generator, or solar battery?
ACDC's role is to make the electrical infrastructure correct. Whether the final backup source is Tesla Powerwall, another battery system, solar storage, or a generator transfer setup, the home still needs safe circuit planning, permits, service capacity, and clean installation.
No fake certification claims.
We distinguish the offer cleanly: ACDC is the ESA licensed electrical contractor for battery-ready electrical work. If a manufacturer-certified installer is required for a specific battery product, that requirement is handled honestly in the project scope.
Our Battery-Ready Electrical Process
Send Photos
Send photos of your panel, main breaker, meter area, and where battery equipment or backed-up circuits would go.
Load Review
We identify major loads, EV charger plans, heating/cooling equipment, and which circuits matter during an outage.
Scope Design
We recommend the practical electrical path: no upgrade, critical-load panel, load management, sub-panel, or 200A upgrade.
Install + ESA
The work is installed cleanly, permitted where required, inspected, labeled, and ready for the battery system or final commissioning.
Home Battery Backup FAQ
Does ACDC install Tesla Powerwall systems?
ACDC provides the licensed electrical side for home battery backup readiness: panel upgrades, backup load panels, conduit, dedicated circuits, ESA permits, and code-compliant integration work. We avoid claiming Tesla certification unless that certification is formally in place.
Do I need a 200A panel for a home battery backup system?
Not always. The answer depends on your service size, panel condition, backup-load plan, EV charger load, heating and cooling loads, and whether solar is included. Many older GTA homes need a panel upgrade before battery backup makes sense.
Can battery backup work with an EV charger?
Yes, but the loads must be planned together. EV chargers draw a lot of power, so the charger amperage, backup load panel, battery system, and main service capacity should be reviewed as one electrical system.
Which battery and EV charger brands can ACDC plan around?
We can assess electrical readiness for Tesla Powerwall, FranklinWH, EcoFlow-style backup systems, solar battery ecosystems, and common EV chargers such as Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, FLO, Wallbox, Grizzl-E, and Emporia. Product availability, warranty, and manufacturer-certified installer requirements are confirmed before final scope.
What should I send for a quick estimate?
Send clear photos of the electrical panel, main breaker, panel label, meter area, garage or equipment location, and a short list of what you want backed up during an outage.
